The Veterans of Foreign Wars has a mission. It is "to honor the dead by helping the living."
With that…More mission, VFW and Auxiliary members across the country work in their communities, volunteering time and expertise, and raising funds. The group gives scholarships amounting to $2.5 million each year. In Connecticut, the 129 VFW posts have donated more than 139,000 volunteer hours and more than $903,800.
Across the country, VFW members give more than 13 million hours of volunteer service every year. They help with local food banks, run blood drives, lead youth groups and visit veterans in the hospital.
The Uncasville VFW post on Raymond Hill Road holds regular meetings and has a bar where members can meet and socialize.
