Before Our Lady of the Lakes church was built, residents of Salem, Oakdale and Bozrah would travel to Uncasville andMore Colchester to attend mass. A vacant Protestant church on Route 82 was eventually bought and donated to the diocese, and that served as a sanctuary for a number of years.

In the early 1960s, Joseph Dabroski and his wife donated the land on which the church now stands, on Route 82, between Gardner Lake and Oxoboxo Lake. Our Lady of the Lakes Parish was formally established on September 1, 1966. Today, it is rich with offerings, programs and ministries, internally and in the community it serves.
