The Mohegan Fire Company occupies a central location in Montville. It has two engines, a heavy rescue truck, a brush…More truck, two service vehicles, a boat and an ambulance. There are about 60 volunteers in the department; nine are women. As with the other fire stations in Montville, there is always a full-time paid firefighter on duty.
On the rock ledge at the side of the parking lot, Sparky watches over Fire Station No. 1.
Inside, it's Chief…More Ron Turner who does the watching.
A transplant from Waterford, Turner has been in Montville for 17 years. He says there are 25 active volunteer members; three are women. All are certified by the state. There are 12 EMTs and three emergency responders.
The station has 10 trucks, two ambulances and a couple boats. Montville's oldest truck, "The Old Lady," built in 1931, has been restored - entirely with money the fire department raised itself.
