WNBA Star Tina Charles Builds School In Africa
The Connecticut Sun center's school will help out close to 150 children in village of Ganale
Tina Charles, center for the Connecticut Sun, provided the funds to build a 2,861-square foot school in Africa, Connecticut Sun announced.
Charles teamed up with OmniPeace and buildOn to build the school in the village of Ganale, located in Mali, a country in Western Africa.

According to the release, Charles paid for the entire cost of the school building, $32,000, which will be used as an elementary school for close to 150 students and in the evening for adult literacy students.
“It’s kind of overwhelming knowing I was able to make a difference just like that,” Charles said in the release. “I just want to always give back because somebody gave to me when I was younger and that’s just what I am about.”

Charles, 2010 WNBA Rookie of the Year, plans to play on the United States Olympic Women’s Basketball team this summer and hopes to continue her partnership with OmniPeace and buildOn, the release says.
