St. Bernard's Sixth-Graders Start Food Drive for Tornado Victims

Olivia Thayer and Jack Feeley Are Heading the Efford

Western Alabama was one area that was hit very hard with devastating tornadoes this spring.  More than 300 people died and hundreds more were hurt and left homeless.

The demands on the food banks in Western Alabama are overwhelming.  In an effort to help with that demand, two SBS sixth graders, Olivia Thayer and Jack Feeley, will hold a food drive during the week of June 6 - 10.

They will be collecting items and preparing them for transport to Alabama.  Items will be delivered to the West Alabama Food Bank during the week of June 20.

Because of the destruction of so many homes, items that do not need to be cooked are in high demand.

These include cereal, crackers, cans of soup, canned meats, cookies, bars, etc.  Also in high demand are cleaning products.  Donations of deodorant, toothpaste, and other hygiene products will be accepted as well.  Monetary donations would be wonderful, too!  For every $1 donated to the food bank, $7 worth of food can be distributed.

All donations should be brought to the middle school office.  Checks should be made payable to the West Alabama Food Bank. For more information about the West Alabama Food Bank, please visit its website.
