Cigar Dinner Scheduled for VFW

Cigar aficionados will have the chance to enjoy their hobby to its fullest extent, and support a good local cause all at the same time, on Friday, Sept. 16, at the .

It’s the second annual Cigar Dinner, a fund-raiser for Montville Youth Football.

The $50 ticket (the numbers are limited) entitles you to cigars as well as a dinner of salad, steak, baked potatoes and assorted pastries. There’s a cash bar and a 50-50 raffle, as well.

Since the VFW is a private club, the smoking of cigars is allowed!

The cigar dinner is only one in a series of fund-raising events for Montville Youth Football, which opened its season on Saturday with a jamboree at Camp Oakdale.

Sales of the Montvillopoly game, at $25 each, constitute the group’s major fund-raising effort. To read about Montvillopoly, click .

The group’s recycle program has been going on for a while, and, according to a press release, is doing well. Cell phones, ink cartridges and digital camera are being collected and recycled to raise money for the program. You can bring items to practice and recycle them in a box outside the concession stand, or call Lisa Marie or Tina for information on drop-off boxes.

The Homecoming Dance and Senior Night will take place at the VFW on Oct. 7, from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are limited, and the event is open to all residents, from kindergarden through eighth grade. Tickets are $10 each. Again, call Lisa Marie at 860-823-9763 or Tina at 860-908-5987.

The group’s final 2011 fundraiser, Holiday Happenings, will offer Montville gear, crafts, food and pictures with Frosty, Rudolph and Santa.
