Chamber Foundation awards nearly $82,000 to help children

Since 2002, Foundation grants have topped $684,000

The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut Foundation awarded nearly $81,859 in grants Friday to 22 local organizations that provide services to children from Eastern Connecticut.

The announcement was made at the Chamber’s office, 914 Hartford Turnpike, Waterford.

According to a press release, since 2002, the Chamber Foundation has donated $687,214 to numerous local organizations that serve the needs of children, specifically those groups that address the Foundation’s goal of funding projects which enhance and enrich education and economic opportunities in the Chamber’s service area.  Foundation Chair Louis Ziegler said his group was able to distribute $20,000 more than it did last year, thanks to the generosity of those who attended the Holiday Gala held in December at the Mohegan Sun and those who donated items for the auction, the release said.

“There are so many people to thank who volunteer their time each year for the children of eastern Connecticut in order to make this happen, and on behalf of the board I would like to do that,” he said in the release.

“I would like to offer a special thank you as well to all the non-profits who will be receiving the grants. The programs they have in place, and their commitment to the underprivileged children of eastern Connecticut is simply amazing.”
