Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for New London County This Afternoon

Thunderstorms are expected to roll into the area around 3 p.m. today.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the New London County area through 9 p.m. Friday, when flash thunderstorms and scattered showers are expected to roll into the area. 

There is a 30 percent chance of precipitation this afternoon with winds around seven miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. 

The risk of showers and thunderstorms rises to about 60 percent Friday evening, mainly between 10 p.m. and midnight. Those storms are expected to produce gusty winds, heavy rain and lighting, according to the National Weather Service.

This Afternoon: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 9pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. North wind between 6 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58. North wind around 6 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 81. North wind between 5 and 7 mph.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
