Groton Gas Prices Higher Than Connecticut Average

Americans are taking advantage of a to take vacation, and AAA says more than ever are hitting the road this week, driving greater than 50 miles for their plans.

Groton residents would be wise to top off the tank after leaving Groton but before getting out of the New London-Norwich area, as gas prices in New London-Norwich are 3 cents lower than the Connecticut average, says the AAA website.

Gas prices in Groton are an average of $3.68 per gallon, 5 cents more than the state average, according to gaspricewatch.com.

According to AAA, "On April 6, motorists experienced a year-to-date peak average price of $3.94 per gallon for regular gasoline. The current national average price of regular gasoline is $3.50 per gallon, 44 cents lower than the April peak and 16 cents less than this time last year."

GasBuddy.com reported Sunday that the cheapest gas in Groton coud be found at , 731 Long Hill Road.

But while more folks are leaving home for the holiday, they plan to spend less, AAA reported. "Median spending is expected to be $749, a 7 percent decrease compared to the expected median spending of intended holiday travelers ($807) in 2011."

"There's no place like home!" We are fortunate to be already in a place which is a "destination" for others, - despite our problems. And it's a joy not to have to fight the I-95 traffic on holidays. 'Staycation' time!

Lately I've found the Cumberland Farms in Groton to be the cheapest around. Usually @.10 less than the other local Cumbies.
