Daily Five: Last Days of Camp, Summer Breezes, and Site Walk

Your Daily Five, Montville.

1. Today expect mostly cloudy skies with a stray afternoon thunderstorm is possible, highs around 85 with light winds from the south. I was going to say something about making it this far with no hurricanes…never mind, I don’t want to jinx us.

2. This is the last week of Parks and Rec Summer Camp.  Montville kids from 5 to 12 have enjoyed six weeks so far of awesome activities, theme weeks and trips. And this, the final week is no exception with Carnival Week in full swing – moon walks, face painting carnival games and music among other cool stuff. And each day is punctuated with Olympic-themed games. Lucky kids. (And moms and dads!)

3. The Inland Wetlands Commission has a site walk scheduled for Thursday at 5:30 p.m. to view and review Hendel’s at 2200-2210 Norwich New London Turnpike, near the Best Western. Hendel’s has applied for a building expansion and additional pump island modification permit. Presumably this project will move forward soon.

4. We think this is not only really cool, but important for business owners. So for those that are members of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, the Social Media Users Luncheon Series will feature monthly question and answer sessions exploring new features and uses of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more. Miranda Creative, a Norwich-based branding agency specializing in social media, will lead all sessions. The luncheons will take place on the second Wednesday of each month from June to December 2012. All Social Media Users Luncheons are free and only open to members of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut. Registration is required and space is limited.

5. Three was a lot of concern about the mostly because there was no heads-up provided to the town. One thing I can say without reservation is that the men and women I have come in contact with at the facility have been awesome. And I don’t think anyone of us blames any correctional officer for the lack of proper notification. Just sayin.’
