Daily Five: Congratulate RockTenn, Hydrant Flushing and Public Safety on the Agenda

The Five you need every day!

1. This weekend was absolutely gorgeous. Today? Not so perfect. Partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms possible, temps in the low to mid 80s and a 30 percent chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm. The big storms of last week missed us. Hope we’re lucky again.

2. The Public Safety Commission meets tonight at 7 p.m. to discuss, among other things, an update on the town’s public safety plan. We’re curious.

3. The containerboard mill on the banks of the Thames in Uncasville, RockTenn, which produces recycled paperboard, laminated paperboard products, folding cartons, corrugated boxes, displays, plastic packaging, partitions, and more celebrated 10 years without a safety incident last week with a soiree that included the company CEO and dignitaries. Patch will be touring the plant in the coming days and we’ll be speaking with safety director John Deveau. Congrats, RockTenn!

4. Hydrant flushing begins at 2 a.m. Tuesday morning – overnight tonight. So just in case you happen to be up in the middle of the night or very early, do not use water for cooking or at the least let the water run until clear.

5. It’s not too late to sign up kids for Fair Oaks Summer Camp. Designed for children ages 5-12 years old. It starts at 8 am and ends at 4 pm each day beginning June 25 through August 10th. The cost is $40 per week. For more information or to sign up check out the website.
