Connecticut Sun Waive Johnson, Robinson, Fitz

Team must be down to 11 players by June 2

The Connecticut Sun announced in a press release today that Tahnee Robinson, Adrienne Johnson and Rachele Fitz have been waived.

The Sun now have 12 players on their roster. The team must be down to 11 players by June 2nd at 2 p.m.

Johnson was selected 28th overall by the Sun in the third round of the 2011 WNBA Draft out of Louisiana Tech, where she averaged 15.4 points per game, finishing fifth in program history with 1,965 points. She had three points and two rebounds in six minutes against the Chinese National Team on May 19th.

“In the case of Adrienne, who was one of our draft picks, she needs more experience playing on the wing,” Sun head coach Mike Thibault said. “Hopefully overseas she can get some of that. She played mostly in the post in college and she needs to work on that.”

Robinson was selected out of Nevada by the Phoenix Mercury with the 31st pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft, before she was dealt to the Sun for a third-round pick in 2012. She averaged 19.5 points per game for the Wolf Pack. She played eight minutes for the Sun against China, scoring five points.

“Tahnee just hadn’t been able to beat out the people in front of her,” Thibault said. “The players at our guard position are pretty solid veterans and there really isn’t a roster spot for her at this point. She has some work to do in a couple of areas of her game and hopefully she can go overseas also and work on them.”

Fitz was signed to a free agent training camp contract in April. The all-time leading scorer in Marist College, where she finished with 2,447 career points and 1,066 rebounds, Fitz scored five points in eight minutes against China.

“Rachele was obviously a very good college player, but she is an undersized post player,” Said Thibault. “With Tina (Charles), DeMya (Walker), Asjha (Jones) and Kelsey (Griffin), we are pretty solid at that spot right now.”
