"The Tenacious Fighter"

The Tenacious Fighter; Write-in Candidate Rosetta Jones

Like many, I enjoy watching good fighters in the ring, live or on television.  I do not like watching fighters who, with little skill, attempt to employ dirty tricks when the referee is not looking, with the evidence of those dirty tricks becoming apparent later.  This analogy became vividly clear when I began doing research on the 2013 candidates running for the office of Town Council in Montville.

As I attempted to find information, on how incumbent and other balloted candidates voted on issues, now or in the past - from online town hall meeting minutes; or how a candidate tried to protect and fight for the town and taxpayers - from various media sources; or accomplishment profiles in candidates personal and professional lives – from distributed literature, media, and online sources; only one candidate stood out from all the others as a good choice; that was candidate Rosetta Jones, who in this 2013 Town Council election is a write-in candidate.

I learned that running as a write-in candidate is rare, and may have never happened before in the Town of Montville.  What tenacity, to by-pass the two party system and run on behalf of the people as a write-in.  For any voter to cast their vote for a write-in candidate, I learned, we must physically write the candidates name on the ballot and pencil in the oval that’s present within the space where the name is written.  Both writing in the name and penciling in the oval are mandatory for a write-in vote to count on this November’s election ballot.

When I reviewed available information about write-in candidate Rosetta Jones, I learned she is running for a third-term on the Town Council.  I then digested her large and readily available public record of accomplishments, stances on issues, bold stands in favor of taxpayer and town dollars protection, which are easily found in the reference sources above, as well as on a website (smartchoiceparty.com).  I then became aware that she was the only candidate standing publically tall based on her record; but the true, not yet communicated, story was in the tenacity that Rosetta Jones has fought with in her previous and current terms in office. Now, I see that same tenacity just as active and admirable in her current campaign as a write-in candidate.

The tenacity to run independent of the two major parties shows me that she has interest in the Town of Montville and its people, not partisanship.  As a resident and taxpayer, I appreciate that revelation through her documented history and current actions toward the present campaign.  I have also not seen any gestures of opponent slander in her campaign, attempting to give the appearance that she is perfect and other candidates are not.  In the past and currently, I have seen media reports and heard that other candidates resort to digging for anything they can hold up as imperfection, instead of publically standing on their own record of personal and professional accomplishment, qualifications, character, and desire to serve the town and people of Montville.

No, Rosetta Jones appears only to be running on her qualifications as a leader, her track record as an in-office tested experienced town official, her belief in promoting what’s best for the Town of Montville and its tax payers - and not thoughtless party line support, nor skill-less fighter tactics.  Finally, it became clear she’s running on the test of her character, which is available in the public record for all to see - who take a moment to look.  That’s the type of fighter I want around the Town of Montville negotiation tables representing me.  The evidence of her campaign approach shows she is counting on every voter in Montville to recognize, in their research and interactions with her, what makes a good qualified candidate and what doesn’t.

In fighting, the better fighter wins by a Knockout or Technical Knockout (K.O. or T.K.O.).  When the voters of Montville do whatever level of candidate research they are going to do, they will all see that their vote supporting the office-tested tenacious write-in candidate, Rosetta Jones, is clearly the front runner and best choice to win a seat on the Montville Town Council by a new acronym – “V.W.I.” (Voter Write-in)!
