Schools Superintendent Aubin: 'We Want Students to Feel Safe'

Aubin said come Monday, there will be counseling support staff visiting with students and teachers as they cope with the tragedy at Newtown

 

The voice of Schools Superintendent Pamela Aubin over the phone betrayed her. Obviously very upset, she was nonetheless focused on sharing the district’s plans for helping students and staff cope with the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

“Our primary focus will be to answer student questions,” she said. “I have been coordinating with principals and I will be in the schools to meet with staff and support (counseling) staff will visit classrooms and speak with students and their teachers. “

Aubin said the district’s principals and “been getting a lot of calls.”

“We want to reassure parents that we will be supporting their children,” she said. “We want them to come to school and feel safe. We’ll do our best.”
