School's Bus Transportation Proposals Request Just 'Due Diligence'

Even if bids come in after a recently published Request for Proposals (RFP) for new bus service, the school board "is not obligated" to vote to subcontract, officials said.

The Montville Board of Education recently created a transportation committee to evaluate services and look into whether or not it’s time to go out to bid for bus transportation. As a follow-up, the business office released a request for proposals, featured in a recent public notice.

Montville School superintendent Pamela Aubin explained that the action is perfunctory and another aspect of the administration’s “due diligence.”

“Last year, in presenting our budget to the town council, I assured the council that we would go out to bid for transportation services to see if we are operating in the most cost effective manner possible -- just part of our due diligence,” she said in a statement emailed to Patch.

“Even once bids come in, the Board is not obligated to vote to subcontract out the transportation services.  There are many factors involved in making this decision,” she said.
