New St. Bernard Headmaster Appoints First Assistant

Mary Dillman was the middle school principal

Thomas J. Doherty III, who began July 1 as headmaster of St. Bernard School, has issued a press release announcing the appointment of  Mary Dillman as the first assistant headmaster for Saint Bernard School, effective immediately. 

Dillman, Doherty says in the release, was selected after an extensive search that included candidates from across New England and the surrounding states. 

She has been the middle school principal for St. Bernard for the past 11 years and in 2006, moved into the administrative ranks supporting the headmaster.

She received her master's degree in professional studies in education and her bachelor's degree in education from Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic. 

Before coming to St. Bernard, Doherty writes, she taught for eight years at St. Mary - St. Joseph School in Willimantic.

As assistant headmaster, the press release continues, Dillman will oversee the educational program for the school.  She will supervise faculty and manage student welfare while promoting the Catholic teachings and the mission of St. Bernard School.

"We will benefit from her leadership and experience as both teacher and administrator," Doherty writes in the press release.

"I would also like to express a heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Deborah Fitzgerald who served as our high school principal and Mr. James Venditto '62 who served as our vice-principal for their unwavering commitment, dedication and support to the Saint Bernard School community," Doherty writes. 'We are fortunate that they will continue to serve our students, bringing their knowledge and leadership into the classroom."
