Montville Students and Educators Recognized for Outstanding Achievement

As well as philanthropy, selflessness and volunteerism, all are called Montville Marvels.

Perhaps the best part of a Montville Board of Education meeting comes when Montville Marvels are introduced and their achievements celebrated. Tuesday night’s meeting was no exception.

From Mohegan School two students, Ying Yi Chen and Frankie Yeung, both Montville High School students, were honored for volunteering their time as translators for Chinese students. And then there was the Shirey Family (who were not present) honored for their philanthropy in helping families in need at the school which Principal Caron said nearly half of which come from homes struggling financially; 46% of the student population at the school is receiving free or rescued lunch.

And for his leadership and efforts in a October 2012 fundraising effort, 10-year-old Trevor Lamirande, raised $1,900 from his Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser at Oakdale School. The money, in his aunt Traci Hart's name, was donated to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation. So in addition to being a Montville Marvel, Trevor was also presented with a certificate from the foundation.

Dr. Charles E. Murphy School Gabrielle Beal was honored for her musical talent, responsibility and citizenship and for being recognized at the 14th annual Elementary Celebration of the Arts. Also recognized at the celebration was student Tucker Doyle, praised for his artistic talent and “fine character."
