Montville Seeks Nominations for Teacher of the Year

Doug Couture Is Montville's Current Teacher of the Year

The Montville Board of Education is seeking nominations of a Montville teacher to represent the town in the Connecticut Teacher of the Year Program.

The program is designed to honor teacher excellence by recognizing teachers who have inspired a love for learning and have distinguished themselves in the profession.

Nominees need to be tenured and in the classroom at least 50 percent of the time. They should be “well-rounded,” involved in the school and the community. They should make “a profound impact on the lives of students,” according to a letter from Margaret Tripp, administrative assistant to the superintendent.

A press release from the state explains that the Connecticut Teacher of the Year will then become eligible to be named National Teacher of the Year.

“Districts participating in the Teacher of the Year Program,” the press release says, “have found the program to have a positive impact on the entire community.”

Montville’s Teacher of the Year for 2010 was Doug Couture. He was a semifinalist in the state last year.

If there is a Montville teacher who you feel has made a difference in the life of a child, please submit a nomination and a brief explanation of why you feel the teacher should be Teacher of the Year by Friday.

This is the second year that nominations have been sought from parents, Tripp says.

You can click on the nomination form in the photo box, and send nominations to: Margaret Tripp at mtripp@montvilleschools.org.  If you have any questions, you can contact Tripp at 848-1228.
