Montville Robotics Teams Rock!

Montville High School's Team, the Fastenators, Wins the 2011 Connecticut CTEA Vex Robotics Championship; Tyl's Team Wins the Design Award

On Sunday, the Montville High School Fastenators were crowned tournament champions at the 2011 Connecticut CTEA Vex Robotics Championship, edging out teams from across New England in an exciting day long competition at Central Connecticut State University.

At this event sponsored by the College of Technology Next Generation Manufacturing Center, the CCSU School of Engineering and Technology and the Connecticut Technology Education Association, students competed to qualify to represent Connecticut at the World Championship VEX competition in mid-April at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida.

The object of the game, called Vex Round Up, is to attain a higher score than your opponent alliance by scoring tubes upon goalposts, owning goalposts and by low hanging or high hanging from a ladder. Game strategy, mechanical ability, and driver skills are critical components for success. The Fastenators, led by Dillon Babcock and Zaria Margolis, performed at a high level throughout the competition.

The Tyl Middle School Robotics Team also did well at this competition.  The Tyl team won the Design Award. This award is presented to a team that demonstrates an organized and professional approach to the design process, project management, time management and team organization. This was a great day for Montville Robotics.

As Connecticut strives to expand opportunities in Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education the VEX program not only supports this effort by providing us with an exciting competition but also curriculum based robotics. As we introduce and expand robotics into our education program, VEX provides a dynamic platform to introduce us to STEM concepts and applications.
