Montville Marvelous: Educators, Students Honored at BOE [VIDEOS]

Academic excellence, commitment to teaching, love of music, extra effort and just being a great kid just a few of the reasons students and staff are honored.

Everyone’s favorite part of the monthly Board of Education meeting is the section devoted to heaping deserved praise on students and educators for going above and beyond.

One of the biggest awards of the night was reserved for Montville High School junior Lacia Japp, who was named a Governors Scholar of Connecticut.

A number of other presentations were made including a shout-out to Jill Mazzalupo for taking the reins at Mohegan Elementary School as interim principal.

Also Tuesday, the BOE celebrated the first ever Paraprofessional of the Year 2014 winner Donna Rice, who is a Special Needs paraprofessional at Leonard J. Tyl Middle School. Montville Superintendent of Schools Pamela J. Aubin said the decision was an “extremely difficult one to make,” so several semifinalists for Paraprofessional of the Year 2014 were named: – Peggy Kelley, Debbie Murphy and Janet Wrobel.

Speaking of Tyl, “for her hard work, support, and dedication to Leonard J. Tyl Middle School's Student Council” Cindy Carvalho was honored.

And for “being a leader among her peers, for her dedication to Chorus, and for making the Eastern Region Music Festival three years in a row” Tyl 8th grader Cassandra LaRose was honored.

And at Palmer Academy, for demonstrating leadership qualities throughout the current school year John Avery was honored for his all the progress he's made and stellar participation in a Palmer jobs program -- where an employer has been so pleased with Avery's reliability and performance, he's being offered a regular job.

Awesome work, everyone!
