The Montville Board of Education has been honored for the fifth year in a row with the Connecticut Association of Boards of Educations' Board of Distinction Award.

Board members, led by Chairman Dave Rowley, received the award on Friday, Nov. 15, at the CABE/CAPSS Conference at the Mystic Marriott Hotel in Groton.

The CABE Board Recognition Awards, according to a release from Montville Public Schools, are designed to recognize Boards of Education for their effective leadership, which is characterized by their ability to work together as a "team."

The Montville board received the CABE Leadership Award from 2002-2009.  In 2009, CABE established a second level of awards, the Board of Distinction Award.  The CABE Board of Distinction Award recognizes boards that are truly exemplary.  Only boards which have received the Leadership Award at least twice in the prior four years are eligible to receive the Board of Distinction Award.

The criteria to receive the award are based on the following five categories:  board leadership/student achievement, board member professional development, policy, community relations, and related organizational leadership.
