Mohegan Tribe Bring Music, Dance, Storytelling and History Lesson to MHS [VIDEOS]

Members of the Tribe's Cultural and Community Program department visited MHS Monday

 

In a stirring presentation Monday, members of the Mohegan Tribe's Cultural and Community Programs Department shared music, dance, story-telling and a peek into the window of Mohegan history with Montville High School juniors and seniors, part of teacher Derek Wainwright’s social studies class. 

The presentation was part of an educational grant awarded by the Tribe to a number of area schools including Montville.

The main presenter was Susan Meehan, whose tribal name is Golden Wolf. Also on hand were flute player and fire keeper for the Tribe, Jay Ihloff, whose tribal name is Two Trees, drummer and singer Justin Scott, dancer Amanda Russell and Marie Pineault from the Council of Elders, and the Tribe’s Medicine Woman Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel.

Also present was State Rep. Kevin Ryan.
