First Day Went Better Than Okay, It Was Great!

Superintendent Pam Aubin gave first day of school two thumbs-up.

Montville Public Schools got back to business Monday and by all accounts, it was a great first day.

“It couldn’t have gone better,” said Schools superintendent Pamela Aubin.

Standing by at Dr. Charles Murphy Elementary School, she commented on how “calm, organized a transition,” it was.

“Students just went right to classes; they looked relaxed, they looked great.”

And speaking of great, so too were teachers.

“The teachers all looked well-rested and ready to go. They really looked great everywhere.”

Aubin said that with “not too many new students, class sizes look terrific.”

And she said the buildings and grounds look “exemplary.”

“Just such a really good start for us,” Aubin said. “We have great schools.”

Montville Patch waited for the bus with five Mohegan Elementary School boys at their stop off Fitch Hill Road early Monday morning and the boys were only too happy to show their new shoes, new backpacks, big smiles and share the fact that each knew who their new teacher would be.

John Plourde, 11, Shenphen Yeshi, 10, Chophel and Dorjee Tsering, both 9, and Hayden Riemer, 7, said they were done with summer and ready for school.

Hayden’s grandfather John Fister and John’s mom Lynn waited with them.
