Buscetto Files Suit Against St. Bernard, Diocese

The suit says his termination was improper

William Buscetto, former athletic director at St. Bernard School, has filed suit against the school and the Diocese of Norwich.

A press release says the suit charges that Buscetto's termination was improper. It was filed Oct. 27 in New London; the next activity is scheduled for Nov. 22.  Madsen, Prestley and Parenteau LLC are representing Buscetto.

Buscetto was fired in June, as one of the final acts of former Headmaster William McKenna, before retiring.

Supporters of Buscetto rallied around him, students pouring out accolades and support, and parents threatening to pull students out of the school. St. Bernard offered to reinstate him, though with a $16,000 paycut and the relinquishing of his baseball coaching duties.

Buscetto and others attributed the firing to a personal difference between him and McKenna. In 2009, his first year coaching at St. Bernard, he led the Saints to the Class S championship game. Last season, an underclassman-dominated team won the ECC Small and lost in the ECC Tourney Final by a run.

In addition, he donated his own money to build a $75,000 softball field at the school.
