Board of Education Approves Superintendent's Budget

Proposal would mean 1.43 increase from last years' budget

The Montville Board of Education has unanimously voted to approve Superintendent Pamela Aubin’s proposed budget for the 2011-2012 school year.

The proposed budget increased school spending to $36,789,692; increasing spending by $519,657 or 1.43 percent from the previous year.

Staff salaries were decreased by $467,607, a result of a new contract with teachers that halted wage increases for a year. Two middle-school teachers’ retirement also subtracted from the total. Aubin’s budget reflected a $185,024 increase in wages to non-certified staff, reflecting new positions and higher pay. Some increases included increases for services like insurance, pension and Medicare for staff. Another was $119,128 additional dollars for repairs and construction.

Members of the board expressed their approval for the proposed budget, with several pointing out that  school boards in other towns had been forced to raise their budgets considerably more than Montville.

“The bottom line is that we kick butt,” said Todd Pomazon.
