Youth Advisory Board Talks About Fees and Projects

Group Tightens Rental Rules, and Sets a Security Deposit

The Youth Advisory Board has opened discussion on charging an annual registration fee for kids involved in the after-school program, Director Barbara Lockhart said Tuesday morning.

The fee could help offset the operating costs of the program, Lockhart said. The program can accommodate 65 children, and he waiting list has grown tremendously in the past year or so.

The board also discussed changes to the rental program.

In January, the Youth Advisory Board decided to discontinue renting the Youth Center to the general public. Nonprofit groups, youth service organizations and civic organizations may rent the space; they will have to give a $25 donation, and a $50 security deposit, which will be returned if the building is left clean and in good condition.

Groups that have previously used the center will be grandfathered in, according to the website, even if they do not fit the criteria.

A letter and memorandum of agreement that the board reviewed at the meeting also made clear that the group or individual in charge of the event will be held responsible for “any damage to or loss of property arising from such use.”
