Yes, There Are Meetings Scheduled for the Week

Finance Committee, Commission on Aging, a lottery and an FOI seminar

Depending, of course, on what happens with Hurricane Irene, here are the scheduled municipal events for the week.

Tuesday, Aug. 30

The Finance Committee has scheduled its regular monthly meeting for 6 p.m. in Room 203 of Town Hall. On the agenda are a discussion of purchasing policy, a discussion of the resolution on the sale of surplus equipment.

Wednesday, Aug. 31

At 10 a.m., a lottery is scheduled to determine the order in which names will appear on the ballot for offices with multiple openings. These are the Town Council, the Board of Education and the Zoning Board of Appeals. The lottery will be held in the office of the Registrar of Voters, on the second floor of town hall.

Thursday, Sept. 1

The Commission on Aging is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. in the Senior Center. On the agenda are discussions and updates on the Chicken Soup program, senior safety zones and more.

At 7 p.m., a Freedom of Information seminar will be held in the Town Council chamber in Montville Town Hall. Tom Hennick, education officer for the Freedom of Information Commission, will be the guest speaker. The “nuts and bolts” of the Freedom of Information Act will be discussed, including meetings of government agencies that must be public meetings, how votes must be recorded, agendas filed and notice given. The public is welcome to attend.

Saturday, Sept. 3

The nonprofit tag sale at Fair Oaks School, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., is to benefit the Montville Union Baptist Church.
