There are town and school meetings, a FOI seminar and a Bulletin mayoral debate

Here are municipal events happening this week in Montville:

Monday, Oct. 17

The Economic Development Commission meets, at 7 p.m. in Room 203 of Montville Town Hall.

A Freedom of Information Seminar is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Town Council chamber of town hall. The seminar proposed to give insight into and information on the Freedom of Information laws that govern public bodies and institutions. It is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Oct. 18

The Housing Authority is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. in Freedom Village, 2 Liberty Road, Oakdale.

The Town Administration/Rules & Procedures Standing Committee is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. in Room 102 of Montville Town Hall.

The Montville Firefighters Relief Fund Committee has scheduled a special meeting at 6 p.m., in Room 204 of town hall. On the agenda is a review and discussion of an ordinance establishing a Volunteer Firefighter’s Relief Fund. Also on the agenda is a discussion of tax abatements vs. stipends.

The Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. in the library of Montville High School. On the agenda are awards to Corey Schwartz, “for his kind and courageous spirit,” and to Jessica Lilienthal, Mark McGuire, Jill Paglino, and Amy Richter, for bringing Rachel’s Challenge to Tyl Middle School, and sponsoring the Chain Links Club.

Carley Prokop is going to be honored for her active involvement in community service work and for being a hard-working student. Glen Mathieu will be honored for his work on the Montville Community Run and Rally.

Stacey Mailhoit will be honored for attending Palmer Academy and Montville High School and working, as well.

Also on the agenda is a report from the Ad-Hoc Kindergarten Feasibility Committee, which is looking into the idea of full-time kindergarten.

And Brian Levesque and Laurie Pallin will give an update on the X2 Aspen program.

Wednesday, Oct. 19

The Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the Town Council chamber in town hall. On the agenda are discussions of the upcoking Trick or Trunk event, of the $63,233 final cost of the new restrooms at Camp Oakdale, of the capital plan, summer camp, 2012 improvements and the Christmas float and parade. Thusday, Oct. 20

The Bulletin will host a mayoral debate at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Montville High School. Ray Hackett, the opinion page editor of the Bulletin, will be the moderator. The event is free and open to the public.

The Inland Wetlands Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the town council chamber, in town hall.

Saturday, Oct. 22

The nonprofit tag sale at Fair Oaks School, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., is to benefit the Mohegan-Pequot Lions Club.
