Max Says It's Time to Get Licensed

All Dogs Should Get Their Tags in June

Throughout Connecticut, June is dog-licensing month, and Montville is no exception.

Assistant Town Clerk Melinda Roberts says that dog-license-renewal notices are going out now.

If your dog is older than six months, he or she is supposed to be licensed, and must wear a collar and a tag all the time. If a dog is found without a tag, he or she is assumed to be unlicensed.

It costs $8 to license a neutered male or spayed female, and $19 to license an un-neutered male or unsprayed female.

To get a license, you must show proof that the dog has been vaccinated against rabies. If your dog has just been spayed or neutered, you need to bring a certificate from your veterinarian.

You can get your dog’s license in person at the Montville Town Clerk’s office, or you can send a check to Montville Town Clerk, 310 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Uncasville, CT 06382. If you do this, you will need to include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Roberts says that every year, the tag is different. Last year, it was a green dog-boned shaped tag. This year, it’s purple.

Last year, Roberts said, 1,544 dog licenses were issued.

If you’re late, the penalty is $1 per month per dog.
