Thanksgiving Baskets Go Out to Montville Today [VIDEO]

About 300 families will get nice Thankgiving dinners from their neighbors

Today, about 300 families will head to the Montville Senior Center to pick up chock-full-of-Thanksgiving boxes of food, ingredients, turkey and all the trimmings.

Food for the boxes was donated by people, schools and businesses all over town, and brought to the Montville Senior Center, where seniors stacked and sorted food, and packed the big boxes full of the good stuff.

Kathie Doherty-Peck, director of the senior center and the town's Social Services department, sais that the call for baskets was up a little this year from last year; she expects the Christmas basket program to be even bigger.

In addition to the baskets, about 50 seniors in town will receive special baskets. Seniors and people with disabilities who are spending the holiday alone will have hot home-cooked meals delivered to them on Wednesday. Doherty-Peck said that more than 50 of these meals will be sent out.

The need for food continues throughout the holidays, Peck said. Not only are the seniors and social services providing holiday baskets, but the Montville Food Pantry continues to serve its regular customers, more than 140 families.
