TCP Boundary Hearing Tonight At 6 p.m.

The mixed income housing development proposed for Route 32 includes an Environmental Impact report. And in that report was contained a map of the Proposed Traditional Cultural Boundary, which is the subject of tonight’s public hearing slated for 6 p.m. at Montville Town Hall. 

The proposed TCP was raised because the developers for The Villages were seeking funding from Housing and Urban Development and that application triggered what Town Planner Marcia Vlaun called a “government to government review,” the tribe being its own government with an interest in the project because of culturally and historically significant features on the site.

HUD and state historic preservation agencies – with input from the public, the town, the owners of the property, the applicant and the tribe – will decide whether the TCP is eligible for listing on the National Historic Register.

The first step: public comments hence tonight’s hearing with the Department of Economic and Community Development.
