Stuff the Cruiser to Help Montville Families

The event takes place at the Stop & Shop parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday

The Montville Police Department, in conjunction with the town’s Social Services Department, will hold a Stuff the Cruiser event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stop & Shop in Uncasville.

Lt. Leonard J. Bunnell says the department has done Stuff the Cruiser events for six years, mostly during the Christmas holiday, but also from time to time for Thanksgiving.

“We collect the items from the patrons of the store – new, unwrapped toys, canned goods,” Bunnell said.

“Whatever folks like to donate,” Social Services is happy to have, said Kathie Doherty-Peck, who runs the department. “It’s a fun event,” she said. “(The Montville Police) do very well with the collection.”

The food and toys collected – and any money that people want to donate – go to social services for the holiday program. The department makes baskets of food and toys for Montville residents in need.
