Silly, Serious Fun at the Transfer Station [VIDEO]

Recycle! It's the law! And it's good for the planet!

Recycling is serious stuff, but there's no reason it can't be fun.

Flo Turner, the Montville Transfer Station's queen of recycling, could be found this weekend all dressed up as the Recycling Triangle, urging Montvillians to recycle - and reuse, reduce and repair while you're at it.

Her outfit looks like the triangle that you find on the bottom of plastic containers. In the middle of the triangle, you'll see a number, 1-7. If there's a number in that triangle, the Montville Transfer Station will accept the item for recycling.

If you pay for trash pick-up, recycling saves money for you, as the materials take up less space in your trash. Recycling saves the town money - even makes the town money - as it's material that the town doesn't have to pay to have hauled away. In some cases, Montville even earns money from selling its recycled materials.

Also, people's recycled household goods often make their way into the donation centers at the transfer station. One is for nonprofit groups; the other is for regular homeowners. Bring something, take something, share something - an item you no longer need could be just what your neighbor's been seeking.
