Sagging Wall Is on State's Repair List

The Work Will Fix the Wall at the Intersection of Routes 32 and 163

Workers from the Connecticut Department of Transportation, AT&T and Connecticut Light and Power met at the intersection of routes 163 and 32 late last week, in a "field meeting" to discuss an upcoming project.

The wall that runs along Route 32 is sagging; Jersey barriers keep cars from getting too near it.

Bryan Reed, from the Department of Transportation, said on Friday that the state hopes to begin work in the summertime and finishe in the fall. The state and federal governments will pay for the project, Reed said; the town will pay nothing.

Some environmental questions still remain to be answered, Reed said, and so there will be at least one more meeting at the site.

In terms of traffic, Reed said, "the goal is to maintain a lane in each direction at peak hours."

During off-peak hours, which could be at night, traffic might run in alternating lanes.
