Public Safety Building Remains on Budget Track

Design Development Phase Is Finished

The first expense reports for the public safety building are in, and the actual costs have undercut the projected costs by $344.

Marcia Vlaun, a member of the Public Service Building Committee, and also the town’s planner, reported at the group’s meeting last week that the cash flow projected in November for this period was $116,954; the actual cash flow was $116,610.

The design development portion of project is now finished, Vlaun said, and the focus of the project is moving into Construction Documents phase. In this phase, plans are translated into documents.

She pointed to a fat roll of plans, and a large stack of documents, and said that the accumulation of materials is far from finished.

The construction documents, she said, detail what is to be built. They contain information on everything from clearing the site to building the holding cells.

“Every nut, every bolt, every window, every door,” she said.

The bidding documents are scheduled go out in May. The state will look at them before they go out, because of the $700,000 grant Montville is receiving for the project.

The contracts should be awarded by mid-June, and construction is scheduled to begin then.

In other committee business:

The committee approved a $9,000 budget for work by a design expert on the furnishings.

It approved the request for proposals for the communications tower.

It approved the draft of a letter to the Montville Town Council, asking that attorney Ron Oschner continue as the attorney for the committee. The council is expected to consider the matter at its meeting tonight.
