People of the Week: Public Safety Building Committee and Town Planner

Three years and seven months from the first time it met, the Public Safety Building Committee has stuck it out, stayed the course and delivered an awesome complex!

The Public Safety Building Committee's first meeting was June of 2009.

Here’s a section of the minutes from that night, their discussion about funding sources and agreeing to bring Town Planner Marcia Vlaun on board.

“… having the chair of the Town Council meet with them at their next meeting to discuss funding sources for the proposed public safety building. L. Bunnell asked W. Bucko to review information that he had received regarding ARRA funds for the Town. The Committee talked about procuring a grant writer and researching available state, federal, and private funding. It was also agreed that the Town Planner would be invited to the next meeting for her input.”

This was the beginning.

The commission member’s time, dedication and commitment to the project are only equaled by the vote of the people of Montville to pay for it.

Now, 3 years and 7 months later, the building is essentially complete and unless there was some significant snag since yesterday, at 10 a.m. on Jan. 12 the ribbon cutting ceremony and public reception with an public open house until 3 p.m.

For their hard work and dedication, we choose the Public Safety Building Committee --cWilliam Bucko, Leonard Bunnell, Ray Coggeshall, Dave Jetmore, Paul Lewis, Jack Platt, Chris Ida, Jon Leonard and John MacNeil --cand Town Planner Marcia Vlaun as our People of the Week! (And we also salute everyone involved in the project!)
