Paul Formica's Campaign Makes a Final Push to Get Voters Out to the Primary

East Lyme First Selectman Paul Formica cast his vote early this morning and though every ballot is secret, it's probably safe to say that he didn't vote for .  

From there, Formica headed out on a whistlestop tour that will take him to 11 towns from Enfield to Madison before he returns to his restaurant, the in East Lyme, to await the final results after the polls close at 8 p.m..

Formica isn't doing this alone, however. He has mustered a small army of 15 volunteers and 30 interns, many of whom are stationed at polling places all over the 2nd District today to let people know about his campaign for the Congressional seat currently held by Democrat Joe Courtney.

At Cross Lane Fire House, the polling site in Old Lyme, Republican Town Committee members were the only campaigners to be seen and they were all there to support Formica.

said Old Lyme Republican Town Committee Chairman John Bysko. "We're hoping he gets the ultimate nomination." 

Back at Formica's campaign headquarters in East Lyme, meanwhile, interns and volunteers were manning the phones and making calls to remind people to vote today. They're old hands at this by now. Over the last three weeks they've made 35,000 to 40,000 calls, and that doesn't include the "robo" call that went out last night.

"It's been a long day," said Formica campaign intern Olivia Ferdon, a recent graduate East Lyme High School. "We go until the victory speech!"
