Montville Animal Shelter Might Have Your Friend [with VIDEO]

The shelter is loaded with dogs right now, who are ready to go to loving homes

The Montville Animal Shelter is just about busting at the seams with dogs this week.

For starters, there’s a shar-pei, (pronounced “shar-pay”) who came in to the shelter as part of a cruelty case. She had issues with her coat, and a tumor on her chest larger than a softball.

The tumor has been removed, her coat is repairing itself, and the shar-pei seems to be doing well.

Animal Control Officer Chris Martel believes the dog, who is a female, is 3-4 years old. Martel isn’t sure whether the shar-pei has been spayed. She should be in a home with no other pets.

Shar-peis are Chinese dogs with loose, wrinkled skin. They have broad, flat heads with wide muzzles, and tend to be playful, active, loyal dogs.

Martel says that now that the shar-pei is healed, “she should have a happy, healthy life.”

FOUND ONE MORNING RECENTLY at 4 a.m. one day recently on Route 395 is a long-eared female dog with odd eyes. One is blue, and while the other is mostly blue, it has a large brown moat that makes her look a little unbalanced.

Martel does not know much about her.

THERE'S A BOXER/PIT BULL MIX, a female, who has recently had puppies. She is 4 or 5 years old, Martel says, and was found on Dock Road. She is very thin, but putting on weight at the shelter.

WINSTON IS A SMALL, wiry mix of a dog who was signed over to the shelter. He’s probably 3 or 4, Martel says, and is “a good little guard dog.”

Winston has a lot of energy, and would be excellent in a home with older people, and maybe a fenced yard where he could run off some of his energy.

He is a neutered male, and is strong and very smart.

IF YOU THINK YOU are the right person to adopt any of these dogs, contact Martel at 860-848-3529, or animalcontrol@montville-ct.org.

The shelter is always in need of dog food and cat food, and right now, with all these dogs, Martel says, a donation of rawhide would be appreciated.
