Monday Hearing Will Discuss Health Benefits For Registrars of Voters

Montville residents are invited to weigh in on proposed changes that would remove health and disability benefits from the registrars of voters.

The hearing will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at Montville Town Hall's Council Chambers.

The ordinance would remove the benefits from the part-time town employees at the end of their term in 2014, according to The Day. Montville has a Democratic registrar, Lorraine Elliott, and a Republican registrar, Mary Clark-Wilson. The registrar's office has hours from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday and is responsible for setting up polling places, keeping records on the town's voters, and other duties related to elections.

Adoption of the ordinance would repeal the old one. At a Town Council meeting last month, councilors said the ordinance could also grandfather Elliott and Clark-Wilson into the ordinance so that they were receive benefits for the remainder of their term.
