McDaniel Asks Council to Reconsider School Contingency Fund

The money would be used for school security improvements and other contingencies.

The Finance Committee rejected the establishment of a one-percent contingency fund for the schools last month but Mayor Ronald McDaniel recently said the Town Council should reconsider the idea.

Superintendent of Schools Pamela Aubin presented the idea to town representatives near the end of the fiscal year and said the money would be used to improve school security and other contingencies, according to a report in the Norwich Bulletin

Councilors on the Finance Committee rejected the notion and said they didn’t have enough time to fully explore the necessity to set aside one percent of the $36.6 million school budget before the close of the fiscal year.
