Update: Kitemaug Road Will Be Closed at Least Through the Weekend

Kitemaug Road is closed between numbers 68 and 71, Mayor Joe Jaskiewicz said today.

Department of Public Works staffers at the scene said that an early-morning walker noticed an issue and made a call. There wasn't much to see, workers said, but when they opened up a small hole, they found that the underlying foundation had been compromised.

A small stream runs under the road at that juncture, and rain from this storm - and others, workers surmised - must have pulled enough small rocks and gravel from beneath the roadway to loosen everything else.

Jaskiewicz said the road will be closed at least through the weekend. Engineers have to come out and assess the situation, and determine what needs to be done.

"We will work on it as quick as we can," Jaskiewicz said.

The closure is immediate.
