Finance Looks at Non-Profit Subsidy Requests Today

The largest request, $77,000, comes from United Community & Family Services of Norwich

A number of non-profit agencies will make requests today for subsidies at the Finance Committee meeting.

The Raymond Library is requesting $45,000, which represents about $9,000 more than last year’s request. The town funded the library at $37,800 and the library has all but expended that allocation to date.

A number of other smaller request will be considered including, among others, $4,000 for TVCCA, $500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters, $3,500 for the Memorial Day Parade and $3,000 for the New London Homeless Hospitality – the agency that offers assistance to Montville’s homeless.

But by far the largest request is that of United Community and Family Services. The agency, which has services and locations throughout the region, although none in Montville, nonetheless provides health care related services for residents of a number of  towns throughout southeastern Connecticut. The agency is asking Montville for $77,179.

Town Finance Director Terry Hart said the agency usually asks for a large subsidy though rarely gets all it asks for. In fact, in 2012-2013 Montville allocated just $1,000 to the agency.
