Don't Forget: Montville Taxes Go Out On Monday

The town of Montville will begin collecting taxes for the 2014 fiscal year starting on Monday.

Motor vehicle and personal property taxes will be due on Monday. A taxpayer will be considered delinquent if these taxes are not delivered to the town before Aug. 1.

Payments may be made at Montville Town Hall or left in the drop box outside the town hall. Taxes can also be viewed and paid online at the municipal website or by calling 866-558-4073. A fee or 2.95 percent for credit cards or $2.95 for e-checks applies.

Real estate taxes under $100 are due in full during this period. Real estate taxes exceeding $100 may be broken up into two installments, with the first installment due in the July 1 period and the second installment due on Jan. 1. A taxpayer becomes delinquent on the second installment if it is not received before Feb. 3.

Delinquent motor vehicle taxes will be reported to the Department of Motor Vehicles, which will not issue a renewed registration until the payment is satisfied. Delinquent vehicle taxes must be paid in cash or money order.

Vehicles purchased between Oct. 1, 2012, and July 31, 2013, will be taxed on Jan. 1.

Montville’s taxes saw a modest decrease for the 2014 fiscal year. Last month, the Town Council approved a $36,632,735 for the Board of Education, $18,004,673 for municipal services, and $1,043,000 for capital expenditures. The mill rate, or tax per $1,000 of assessed value, decreased 0.93 percent from 29.33 to 29.06.
