Daily Five: Trick or Trunk, Letterboxing at Camp Oakdale, and Comic Books

It's your Daily Five. Who knows, you just might need it!

1. A bit warmer today: Expect a mainly sunny sky with a high of 72. It will be a tad windy, too.

2. Calendar alert! A little early I know but…Halloween brings so many events you should get a head start on that calendar so as not to miss anything, especially not this: Parks & Recreation is presenting its Second annual Halloween Trick or Trunk event. This Spooktacular event will take place in the parking lot of Leonard J. Tyl Middle School, 166 Chesterfield Road, on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, Oct. 28 A free event, Trick or Trunk is a fun and safe way to trick or treat with the whole family. Families park their vehicle, open up their decorated trunks and pass out candy to the visiting trick or trunkers! BE CREATIVE: There will be prizes awarded for the best-decorated trunks. Please keep in mind that although this is our town’s second Trick or Trunk event it is very popular and the amount of “trick or trunkers” visiting your vehicle may exceed 400 people. Please plan accordingly so that you can accommodate all visitors. Registrations for vehicles will be taken until Oct. 25. To register your vehicle for the event go to our website and click on the WebTrac icon to find the program information and register. For more information call 860-848-3030 x 321 or email montvilletrickortrunk@gmail.com.

3. Since we're on the subject of events sponsored by the town's Parks & Rec department, this is such a cool idea: Letterboxing. Break out that calender, again. Have you ever tried Letterboxing? It is a mix of treasure hunting, clue solving and outdoor hiking all rolled into one fun filled activity. Several letterboxes will be hiding, with various levels of ability, for you to find using the provided clues. For those of you that joined us for the spring event, there will be new letterboxes added, as well as several other fun outdoor activities including, a scavenger hunt, fall themed crafts, and more! If you have a compass or letterboxing kit, please bring it. This event will be hosted Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Camp Oakdale fields, but you can come anytime. Rain date will be Sunday Oct. 21, same place, same time. To register for the event go to our website and click on the WebTrac icon to find the program information and register. Registration is not required but appreciated. For more information email Chris Lawton at Trailblazed72@gmail.com.
