Daily Five: Public Safety Building, Mohegan Book Fair and Water Testing

Your Five, folks.

1. Expect a chance of a shower or two during the morning, followed by partly cloudy skies in the afternoon; high 71 with light winds from the north.

2. The Public Safety Building Committee meeting is set for tonight at 6 p.m. in room 203 in Town Hall. If you drive on Route 32 you’ve seen the steady progress over the past few months. Looks awesome, doesn’t it?

3.  Mohegan Elementary School’s PTO holds Scholastic Book Fair today. I always loved the book fairs when my kids were young(er). For a few bucks they were at once excited about making a purchase and I was thrilled they were so into books. (‘Course they often just wanted a poster or fuzzy pencils!)

4. Silver Sneakers is free! in Uncasville offers the program for older adults/seniors. Check the listing for more information.

5. A “mineral-like substance” was discovered in the water at Montville High School last Friday. Superintendent Pamela Aubin had the water fountains shut off and sent a letter home to parents explaining she’d contacted Uncas Health District to test the water. While the results are pending, bottle water has been brought into the school. We applaud Aubin for her swift action.
