Update: Beetham, Emergency Service Personnel Will Be Honored

Council will also consider appointments and a new capital-improvement committee

Monday, Oct. 10

Today is Columbus Day, a federal holiday. Town Hall is closed, as are banks and the post office. Most businesses are open.

Tuesday, Oct. 11

The Planning & Zoning Commission scheduled for today has been canceled.

Wednesday, Oct. 12

The Montville Town Council will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chamber. The one item on the agenda is an executive session on tax abatements.

The Montville Town Council has scheduled its regular monthly meeting for 7 p.m. in the council chamber.

The meeting will include a presentation to council member Russ Beetham for his years of service in town government. It will also include presentations from Councilor Gary Murphy to Firefighter Chief Bryce Wilkens, Lt. Michael Butterworth, Firefighter James Brown, Firefighter David Swinburne and Firefighter Eric Marjewski for bravery and a presentation to Firefighters David Leonard and Herbert Hicks and Police Officer Greg Jacobson.

The council is scheduled to consider appointments, including Tom McNally to the Historic Preservation and Steeing Committee; Laura Tanner, Joseph Berardy and Eileen Cicchese to the Parks & Recreation Commission; and Bart Ferrante to the Planning & Zoning Commission.

The council will also vote on approving a job description for the School Resource Officer.

It also will discuss establishing a five-year capital improvement advisory committee for the town.

This committee would include members from the school board and a variety of town commissions and committees. It would “review, categorize and rank all current items in the capital budget, and review new capital requests.

Thursday, Oct. 13

The Gardner Lake Authority has scheduled its regular monthly meeting for 7 p.m. in Room 203, Montville Town Hall.

The Youth Advisory Board has scheduled its regular monthly meeting for 6 p.m. in the Montville Youth Center, 289 Norwich-New London Turnpike.

On the agenda is a discussion of upcoming  events, including the Oct. 23 pancake breakfast, the ongoing penny drive, and the upcoming Trick or Trunk event.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of partnering with Montville schools and the safe school climate team.
