Council Will Consider Stopping the Fight Against the State

A Motion Scheduled to Come Before the Council Would End Funding for the Lawsuit on the Sex-Offender Treatment Facility

Monday, March 21

The Montville Town Council is scheduled to hold a special meeting at 6 p.m., in the Town Council chamber.

On the agenda is consideration of and action on a resolution to terminate funding for the lawsuit the town has brought against the state regarding the proposed sex offender treatment facility.

Also on the agenda are executive sessions on interviewing Jim Toner for appointment to the Economic Development Commission; on discussing litigation with the state, and on “reviewing records, reports and statements of strategy or negotiations with respect to collective bargaining.”

Also on the agenda is a resolution authorizing the Water and Sewer Commission to keep its own auditor, to appoint a town auditor, and to act on a resolution to “to approve and authorize the funds necessary to implement the written Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Town of Montville and the Montville Fire Fighters Association, Local 3386, IAFF, for the period of July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2012.”

The Economic Development Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m., in Room 203 of Montville Town Hall.

Tuesday, March 22

The WPCA is scheduled to hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. in Room 102 of Town Hall. On the agenda is a motion to consider interviewing Municipal & Financial Service Group of Annapolis, Maryland for Rate Consultant Services.

The Planning & Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the council chamber.

Wednesday, March 23

The Public Works/Solid Waste Standing Committee is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. in Room 102 of Town Hall. On the agenda are updates and/or discussions of the re-use/free items and tag sales programs, the town auction of surplus vehicles, road and bridge repair projects, the sand/salt budget and more. New business includes a discussion of an increase in tipping fees, and a “pay as you throw” trash program, similar to the one Stonington has. Click here for a story on that program.

The Public Safety Building Committee is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. in Room 203 of Town Hall.
