BOE OKs Zero Increase $36.6 Million 2013-2014 Budget

No increase over last year and Full Day Kindergarten adopted. The public weighs in on April 23 when the spending plan goes to hearing.

 

The Montville Board of Education approved the schools 2013-2014 budget Tuesday. The $36.6 million spending plan represents the board-requested zero increase and includes full day Kindergarten, also a board mandate.

The budget goes to public hearing Tuesday April 23 at 6 p.m. at the Montville High School auditorium.

Aubin told the board Tuesday that was accomplished by omitting Project O, a plan for a marine science program, “a number of teacher retirements,” the eliminated of a position at the high school, “amended class sizes,” – here Aubin said elementary classes will remain small from high teens to 20, 21 students tops – and also though savings on food service cost sharing, transportation savings and the elimination of program dues.

What was kept was the Campus Safety Officer position added last Month as an interim program. And the inclusion of the long-awaited full day Kindergarten program that the board – and the community – said was a must-do.
