A Minute with the Mayor

Montville Mayor Ron McDaniel discusses AES Thames, a position open in the Finance Department, and wings

Mayor Ron McDaniel spoke recently to Patch about a number of Montville topics:

which has declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which involves a dissolution of assets as opposed to a restructing of debt.

McDaniel:

A trustee is appointed by the court, and will go through the same process – a sale of assets. Pretty much part and parcel of the same.

I did speak with the trustee, who is in the process of wrapping his arms around everything so that he can go to court with the plan.

On The Villages, the mixed-income housing development proposed for Route 32. McDaniel said he didn’t think it was the right time for a tax break, but:

I think it’s a good project for the town. Every town needs an affordable housing.

On an opening in the Montville Finance Office, advertised at the top pay grade:

I didn’t support that (the top pay grade), and I am working on that right now. It was advertised as one for one for what it was. I was not supportive of that, and I am addressing that.

Best wings in Montville? The Montville Patch held a contest last week to name the town’s best wing joint.

I like the Derby wings. The only two places I’ve had them is there and Laf’s Pizza.  I like wings, but I’m not allowed to eat them any more. I bake my own at home.

Again, we have a man who is a nice guy, liked by a lot of people, but his inexperience is going to cost taxpayers millions of dollars. We won’t see it now, just like it took 12 years to see the Rand Whitney mistake and that Mayor who cost us the 16 million is long gone, leaving the Taxpayers to foot the bill. Mr. McDaniel’s summited an Ordinance to the council proposing the Council give up its Authority over the W.P.C. A. Commission. He wasn’t involved in the town back in January 2011 when the Ordinance was first proposed and denied. My question is, why is he proposing it now when he wasn’t involved with it then? The Mayor and the Council are elected to protect the Town from bad decisions made by Public Officials on Boards and Commissions. How can that be done, if they give up their Authority over those Commissions? Why not propose an Ordinance to give up their Authority over the Board of Ed?

Mayor McDaniel said = I didn’t support that (the top pay grade), and I am working on that right now. It was advertised as one for one for what it was. I was not supportive of that, and I am addressing that. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN IN ENGLISH not political mumbo jumbo?
