Video: Towns From Around the Region Participate in Sobriety Checkpoint

The checkpoint took place on Route 32 on Thursday night

Montville Police were joined Thursday night by New London, Norwich, Groton Town, and East Lyme police departments, as well as Connecticut State Police, in a sobriety checkpoint on Route 32.

Officer Gregg Jacobson said this morning that there were several arrests on drug charge, several motor vehicle-related arrests and one arrest on charges of driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

I would be interested to know how much that operation cost taxpayers last night. One cannot forget that even "grants" are basically tax money. Also, the stretch of Route 32 that was targeted is used primarily by Montville residents, as most other towns' residents use the route 395 bypass to access the casino or travel between Norwich and New London. I would be interested to know why all these other area town police came together to target the residents of the town of Montville and back up traffic for a couple of miles. Montville taxpayers, is this the thanks we get for backing the contruction of a brand-new, 18,000 square-foot station for our police?

I give the Montville Police Department and all other area departments that participated in the Spot Check set up within our Town a lot of credit. Thank you for all you do...even if only one person was taken off the streets last night that is one life that can't negatively effect someone else's because of stupidity. And all the money in the world is well worth that! Thank you again.

what's the matter Tiiu, did you get stopped for a violation, Oh and how stupid can you be...targeting the montville residents, did you not notice the huge casino -duh!!! i cannot believe people that are as dense as you actually write things for the public to read!!! And no it didn't cost the "montville taxpayers" anything, and your portion of the new building was probally a five foot square of floor space...! I have to pay taxes too for all the new football fields and new schools etc. I don't have any kids that went to school anywhere, so i should get a tax break if i'm on the same wave length as you, ! (thankfully i'm not!) please go whine somewhere else!!!
